RIP Mr Nabors. You and Frank gave us a lot of laughter.
He was a confused person, but seemed nice and well-intentioned.
I seriously thought he died years ago, after numerous liver transplants.
One interesting tidbit about Gomer Pyle, it showed on TV from 64-69, right in the heart of the Vietnam years, yet it never mentioned Vietnam once on the show. I guess they didn’t want to delve into politics. Entertainment not pushing political agendas, my how times have changed...
I liked Jim Nabors - always thought he was funny and talented. Impressed that he never made it a big deal that he was gay; neither should we.
Gomer was 37 years old as still just a Private in the USMC.
Makes you wonder about him.
BACK HOME AGAIN IN INDIANA.
Shazam. Gomer Pyle reruns were a big part of my childhood TV viewing. RIP.
Also starred in Sid & Marty Krofft show “the Lost Saucer”, for the Gen-Xers out there.
Didn’t realize he was so young. Just 87.
I remember in 1963, I was in the 5th gade and a fellow classmate told me Nabos was Rock Hudson’s boyfriend. Well, that didn’t make sense to me, so he explained it, as well as he could. I thought he was crazy, no guy would have a boyfriend.
FWIW, Nabors was a supporter and friends with President Reagan.
RIP
Thanks for supporting the troops in Vietnam.
87 is old for a homosexual to live to?
Nobody did the National Anthem or “Back Home in Indiana” better. RIP.
We lost a beautiful singing voice and funny man, not so much a role model.
Here’s a little known fact for ya, Sammy: The “Fun Girls” episode of “The Andy Griffith Show” (season 4, episode 27) is the only time during the run of the series in which the characters Gomer Pyle and Goober Pyle appeared together in the same episode.
Anyway, we had a couple of hours to find something to eat. But I noticed a small poster. It said, 'An Evening With Don Knotts'. That was happening in one of the smaller venues in this big building.
Four of us made our way in, it was just Don Knotts sitting in a chair, talking about his life and his career, and answering questions. We eventually got found out and kicked out, but that was pretty cool.
RIP Jim Nabors... You’ll be missed. He loved the Indy 500 and NASCAR, too. He used to watched both of them.
He was an honorary Marine, a Corporal, in fact.
