Yes, I did read the article.
it will phase out use of the term "Freshman" in favor of the more gender-neutral "Fresh."
But Noob is so much better.

I’d recommend “Snowflakes,” which is pretty gender neutral.

So, now the term for Freshman is Fresh.
Will the new term for Sophomore be Stale?

I guess we need to start referring to all of humanity as 'kind'.
Oops! All of huity as kind.
To: Olog-hai
I would much rather be called a freshman. “Fresh,” when applied to a person, is an insult meaning impudent or saucy.

Also Fresh is an adjective, not a noun.

Somehow going massively in debt to be trained in higher education by people who make up pretend words to avoid reality does not appeal.

Maybe there are different connotations to the word “fresh” in Ireland, but not long ago on this side of the pond the word meant that a man was behaving in an inappropriate, boorish and offensive sexual manner to a woman.
This is the dumbest timing ever to start labeling young men and women as “fresh.”
Vice-Provost Chris Morash and Student Union President Kevin Keane could be the very definition of “tin ear.”
To: RightGeek
“Freshmeat”, perhaps? Not gender specific, and may be highly descriptive.

This is actually happening in the U.S. too.
My eldest child is a freshman in high school. And they were alternately using the term fish and freshers.
When they were giving out awards, there was a “freshgirl” of the week and “freshman of the week” to make it gender specific/neutral.

No. How about freshgay? or freshtranny? or freshnothing? Could you not go with “First Year Student”?

With them there will no longer be a gender; all of them will be gender-less including the LGBT who attend. They’ll all be “It” on the forms. Next they’ll have to change their gender identifier names; no more male names, no more female names.

Bcause of its slavery connotations,
the Master’s Degree will henceforth
be known as “Bachelor Number Two.”
