Interesting choice of words by History:

Unfortunately, Brawley’s story did not hold up to the close scrutiny that followed.

Why is this unfortunate?

If her story had been true, this girl would have been subjected to horrific abuse, there would be a gang of men on the loose, and the local police would have been involved and compromised.

That would have been quite unfortunate.

As it is, her story was revealed as a hoax, which only means that a foolish young person fabricated a story, and that nobody had been abused, no gang of men was on the loose, and the local police were not corrupt.

This sounds like the best possible, and fortunate, possible resolution of this story.

An article last week about a fake hate crime of campus still hurt.

It was a selfinflicted wound. And I’m supposed to care about hateful bigots who stage such stunts to stir up race hatred against white people?
