Met Éireann has issued a nationwide snow and ice warning as a polar low sweeps over the country over the next two days.
The yellow alert comes into force on Friday at 5 am and will remain in place until midday on Saturday.
Snow showers are expected across the country during the alert, but the heaviest snowfall is forecast for counties in Connacht and in Ulster.
Met Éireann said this polar low would begin to track down the country from the North. Friday and Saturday are set be bitterly cold, with widespread frost and ice and temperatures falling as low as minus 4 degrees.
A second weather warning is in place for low temperatures across the country.

-4 is about 28 degrees in real temperature. We dont even break out the heavy stuff for that around here.

Several days hovering around 70 - 73 F here on the San Fran peninsula this week. Ready for some colder and wetter weather!
We’re having a really pleasant start to winter here so far. It’s been 8-18 degrees C most of the month. I only hope the reset of winter feels like Autumn. Fortunately we only get down to about freezing here at the worst, and that’s bad enough. Cold weather is miserable.
Well, that’s not usual for winter weather in Ireland, which infrequently gets below freezing. They get a lot of rain and wind during the winter instead.
Global warming alert!
It’s funny how the heat wave in the western US makes headlines while this does not. Then again........

I wonder if the term “Indian summer” is now considered “racist” and “cultural appropriation” these days. Ever since the global warming hoax, the term has disappeared from the media. It has been a common phenomenon to have warm spells in late fall and winter in the USA.
It’s still also 24.8°F. And just as real as the centigrade scale.
When I lived in Canada, I finally had to learn to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit in my head. The reason was that, crazy as it sounds, I didn’t now how to feel until the number was in F, unless it was very cold. Then there’s not much doubt.
Sounds good to me. Three days of over 90 here in L.A. Air conditioning on Thanksgiving? Insane.
Can’t be. We were told by the climate gods that there would be no more snow ever in that region. Of course the prophecies of the late 1990s never came to pass but still we MUST restrict the productivity of the West, OR ELSE!
I had to listen to some relatives visiting from California complain about how global warming made it much hotter there.
They had this discussion in a heated room. If they had taken one step outside here in New England they would have frozen their sorry stupid rear ends off....
34 F in Gautier, MS this morning - right on the coast.
I was in Ireland when they had a blizzard (aprpoximately 1 1/2 inches on the ground). The entire town of Dublin was in panic. I had to leave a theater performance because cabbies were going home and my hotel was at least 3 miles away...
-4 degrees....Not cold....
Maybe so, but it's +25 °F in Christian units ;>) .
