The right time to eat Thanksgiving dinner is 4pm.
This gives the host enough time to prepare all the things they left until the last minute like the tossed salad no one wants and the cranberry sauce no one eats. It gives them enough time to decide at the last minute to make a green bean casserole because theyve had a panic that theres not going to be enough food.

To each his own but it’s noon for us.
I don’t want help and after all these years have the schedule down pat. The pies and cornbread for the dressing are made the day before. The turkey and yams go into the oven at 7 am. Then it’s relax time. Midmorning the yams come out of the oven and the dough for the rolls is started. Then, it’s more relax time. 10:30 the sides are prepped - dressing, corn casserole, deviled eggs, etc. The bird comes out of the oven at 11 and the sides go in. The gravy is made. The last few minutes, the rolls go in and the salad is made. Easy peasy. No muss. No fuss. Never understood why some get all flustered with the dinner.

Agree. There’s never enough cranberry sauce. Have to have it on the turkey, the dressing and on the hot buttered yeast rolls.

I make the dinner by myself. Learned it was best to take over the cooking at home when quite young. I tell mother every year she doesn’t have to make anything and every year she calls back at the last minute saying she’ll make a fruit salad. You can have my portion. She adds avocado...

Im with you. There is no way in hell that Im eating that disgusting green bean casserole or that cheezy potato glop everyone seems to make now.
“Casserole”= French word that means “doesnt know how to cook”

Sounds good, I like fruit too (unlike Rush). My mother used to make ambrosia every year.

Im in Northern Wisconsin, cant "Yank" a whole lot harder, and I know supper is at night and dinner is earlier. Then again, I know that during the summer, despite some statements, if you have time to come in for a mid-day meal then you arent working. Breakfast is by 4:30 because its light enough to work by 5. Supper is at 9 because thats when its too dark to safely work. If you're hungry in the middle of they day then you need to learn to eat more at mealtime. If you absolutely have to have something then theres a garden or trees youre going to pass through the day. At least traditionally...
Of course, modern CAFOs run nonstop and even illegals complain if they dont get 20 minutes to eat on as short as a 10 hour shift so who knows.

Woo hoo, dinner is finished and no avocado this year. Love avocado but not in fruit salad.

What is it with people who cant cook and bizzare fruit salads? One of me ggrandmothers couldnt cook. We dreaded going there. She made some kind of disgusting boiled mayo with vinegar sauce and put that on half rotten tropical fruit. The “best part” was how the brown bananas would start to break down and like an overboiled potatoe and thicken the sauce with little particles. 40 years since I was last exposed to it and Im wincing just retelling of it.

I put Nilla Wafers in the fruit salad; made too much sauce. Looks good. See how it tastes.

Been down in HOU working on 94yo grandma, made her (fake) lobster (HEB, 8oz $2) & avocado salad with yeast buns for ‘lobster’ rolls, she tore it up like a Jack Russell Terrier. Gonna make some more Sat. or so.
God, I hate being out of the Hill Country..

Haha. That is why I started cooking at a young age. Mother thinks she can cook but can’t. This is the first fruit salad in probably 25 years that was edible. Granny fried everything but at least it was tasty.

Anyone who feels a need to declare that there is only one correct answer to an opinion question is an utter moron. The correct time is: when it suits those cooking and eating it. Everything else is irrelevant, and sanctimonious fools who feel a certain need to be the arbiter of The Only Correct One can go stuff themselves, along with the turkey.Thank you!
