My time over there only saw one fatal accident. The Polizei had large curtains erected around the crash to keep people from rubbernecking.
One thing that surprises me is that fatal accidents are really not as common over there as they are here. Even with virtually no speed limits their fatality rates are much lower than here.
You're right. Good reason for that. Germans are good drivers for the most part. They were when I was there some years back. They don't mess around on the open road. I learned real quick, if you're not traveling in excess of 90+ mph, you do not get in the #1 lane, (Far left) on an open autobahn. Otherwise you'll have a Mercedes bearing down on you at 120 mph and they'll light up anyone stupid enough to do that with their racks of driving/fog lamps and then stand on their tuned horns.
But when they do have collisions, they can resemble aircraft crash scenes.
