Locks were to keep people out at the time, not to keep people in. Even power locks could be easily unlocked from the inside by pulling the lock button on top of the door sill. That old style of door lock button went away to defeat breaking in by using a coat hanger to pull the lock button up from the outside of the car. Even to this day I can’t think of a car that has child safety locks on the front doors, only on the rear doors of four door cars. I suspect a single male in 70’s Alabama would have been driving a two door coupe, though.

She said he was driving a two door, old car. Didn’t specify which one. Something he wold have been driving as a law student as he’d just passed the bar.

And those doors could be opened from the inside by pulling the door handle. Maybe Moore was a real perv and re-wired his car to prohibit unlocking of the doors from the inside. /s
