In a single evening, and at the hand of a single man, shootings at Mandalay Bay in Los Vegas added more than 500 to the pool of Americans who have to be treated for gun injuries.
The cost of these wounds cannot be calcuated. Beyond the financial expense, the societal and emotional expenses are difficult to imagine.
But researchers have quantified one corner of the problem: hospital expenses. Gunshot wounds cost Americans $2.8 billion in hospital bills alone per year, according to a new analysis published in the journal Health Affairs, released coincidentally a day after the Las Vegas attack. That amount is more than 18 times last years National Endowment for the Arts.

How many billions did gun-banning totalitarians like Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Castro cost the world . . . not to mentions the lives they liquidated or destroyed?
Libs cost us trillions.
How do guns cost Americans $2.8 billion in medical costs per year??? Do the guns attack or kill people? Can knives, cars, cigarettes, drugs or alcohol cost billions in medical costs just lying around?! No, they are tools, recreational, social or abused substances. It’s the person or persons who encurrs the costs in their use or misuse.
No mention of how much money hospitals earn by transplanting the organs of deceased individuals with head shots, very typical of gang bangers.
A billion ain’t what it used to be.
You don't have to treat the gunshot wound victims of a government which has all the guns, which we found out in Nazi Germany, Stalin's Russia, Mao's China and Pol Pot's Cambodia...
Illegal aliens cost us $20 billion in all aspects of life. Get rid of ALL of the illegal aliens and the muslims (as in, make them permanently leave) and I will give up all guns except one pistol per adult for self-defense.
When the government which has all the guns shoots you and the other dissenters, there are no medical costs...
LOLOLOL!!!
The Left has been desperate to turn guns into a medical issue for years because they think it’s a way around the Constitution, they keep failing but they keep trying.
I agree with getting rid of the illegals, but LEEAVE OUR GUNS ALONE!
How much does treating the victims of drunk drivers cost annually?
Either ban alcohol or STFU!
So, it’s $997 Billion Dollars less than Obama’s failed Stimulus Bill.
AS long as they claim that guns are the problem, the problem will never end.
You have to understand that the 100 million people killed by their own socialist governments over the last century were free.
MOLON LABE.
(my iPhone automatically set MOLON LABE to all caps so I left it. There has to be some deep cover patriots at Apple)
I agree mostly.
But I kind of wonder about the Gang shooting part.
Back in the 1950s street gangs did not use guns very much. They were harder to come by and more expensive. Consequently, knives and clubs were more often the weapon of choice for street gangs.
Now gangs can afford guns because nearly all of them are in the recreational drug business. The price of a gun is no problem.
But to my point, if going to have to fight up close and personal, hand to hand you may have second thoughts about the matter.
Pulling a trigger requires little intestinal fortitude. Pulling a knife on a guy that may end up gutting you like a fish takes some confidence and a willingness to feel cold steel in your gut and your spilling intestines hitting feet.
Guns used by good guys save Americans thousands of lives and billions in property damage and stolen goods.
Guns also save lives . What is a Congressman’s life worth ? Take that number and multiply that to the number of folks saved by the gun and I bet it TRUMPs the 2.8 bil. number .
Studies showing that man causes global warming or guns are evil are bound to generate more grant money, which is what they’re for.
