Anyone out there with real world experience? I’ve seen small retail shops run by what appears to be only women. I imagine there are haircut and beauty shops that are women only.

I get my hair cut a a barber shop staffed by Fillipinos, mostly women and a couple of men. They do a good enough job on my hair however they rarely stop talking. It's like I'm at a family gathering with my in-laws.

Looking back at your time as a manager, if you didn’t have the issue of federal non-discrimination law hanging over you, would you hire women?

The effect a lack of testosterone was having in our office was even more apparent when I temporarily hired two male directors to work on a series (camera operators are usually men because of the heavy equipment).

The money quote to my mind . . .

Olivia, now 101, is the best actress of her era.

That’s enough for me.

I presume that you’re a fan of her sister’s movies.

I think both are great actresses, but I would have a hard time saying who would be best, because their were so many great then. Barbara Stanwyck, for one had great range. I never saw Olivia do a comedy.

Joan was great in a couple Hitchcock movies I love. Olivia was great in The Snake Pit and The Heiress.

But I do have sympathy for people who are their parent's least favorite, and reminded of it at every turn.

I’d call parts of Olivia’s performances in Dodge City and Santa Fe Trail comedic.

If you’re a Barbara Stanwyck fan, I presume you’ve seen her Christmas movie, Christmas in Connecticut.

“But God help you if you are a man and upset a woman. They will ALL gang up on you.”

I worked for four years as a director for a mid-sized company where all the administrative staff, customer service, purchasing and accounting were held by women...while there were some that held themselves above the fray and behaved professionally, there was a majority that bickered and fought amongst themselves on a daily basis...our receptionist (who was very professional and personable) used to give the daily updates on who was mad at whom, what the perceived slight was and who was on who’s side...one day, I had a conflict with one of the customer service people over a customer request, no big deal, customer wanted additional information on their labels, she didn’t think their request merited consideration, and after a bit of discussion, she begrudgingly agreed...the next day, I was the object of scorn, the ones that held themselves above the fray teased me and shared a laugh, the rest gave me the cold shoulder for about a week until something else popped up...

I work in a hospital.

I double down bet anyone...that if all the worker's were men...the place would run 100% better.

I'll have to check this out. I guess They Died with Their Boots On was kind of light and some humor. But I meant the real comic chops like Rosalind Russell, Carole Lombard, Irene Dunne, and Barbara Stanwyck.

I would add Jean Arthur to the list.

Stanwyck was in great films by Frank Capra, Preston Sturges, Howard Hawks, and Billy Wilder, and William Wellman. She was in some good ones early in her career like Night Nurse, Baby Face, and The Bitter Tea if General Yen.

Yes, I liked that one. I’ve never seen her TV show.

My office is about 60% female.

If anyone harbored Utopian visions of a harmonious sisterhood and visited my office, their dreams would be dispelled by lunch time.

Sometimes, I just put on the headphones and let them have at it.

Having grown up in a family of five girls I could’ve advised her on the stupidity of her initial premise.

I know, right? Too bad this woman never tried to run a committee in any church. That would have made the scales fall from her eyes.

I’d rather supervise 100 men than 5 women.

Good question. Right candidate for the right position I absolutely would and have. I am careful to not let the concentration of them get to dense. Some of my best salespersons were woman. During the 90’s I had one that was the best closer I have ever seen. She was a wonder to watch work. Good people are very hard to find, I will suffer some pain but not let it get anywhere like my room full was.

In a 40+ year career in hospitals And medical laboratories, I was much more comfortable working for a man rather than a woman. My women managers were nightmares. The worst, most competitive behavior. An all woman company?? No thanks!
