“What the cat messes up, a dog will fix.”

You do have a point there.

I’ve owned cats and dogs, and dogs seem to consider cat messes a delicacy. Greatly reduced the number of times I had to clean the litter box.

Tell me about it.

Dogs consider their own poop to be a delicacy.

What they poop, they also clean up. But, that can get to be a huge problem when a dog cleans up after himself and loads up with a week's worth of "delicacies" from the backyard. I had a VERY BIG problem last year, when my daughter left her 85 lb German Shepard with me, for 5 days. The last night, he wanted to go out at about 2 in the morning. I knew I had let him out at 11:00 PM a few hours earlier. I didn't think that he needed to go out again. He insisted, and I insisted he didn't need to go so soon after about 2 hours earlier. I thought I knew better, and I won. He didn't go out. He did his thing on my floor. The problem was not cleaning up his mess. The problem was cleaning up the HUMONGOUS MESS he had made, which amounted to about 20 lbs or more of poop (and I'm not kidding about that). I spent the next 2 hours using paper towels to clean up the mess, flushing a bit at a time. That was an exhausting 3 hours! And I'm not kidding about that either. At the end, I ended up mopping the floor about 5 times, using all kinds of cleaning fluids to get the smell out. To this day (1 1/2 years later), I'm still not convinced I got it all out, even after getting a new wood floor for the whole house.

Now, every time "Mojo" is left for us to take care of, I let him be the boss, and he goes out every time he wants to, and that can get exhausting too. But, lesson learned and never again. Biggest lesson? Never get a huge dog as a pet. Chihuahuas are "poop" friendly.
