PHOENIX - One of Bill Gates' investment firms has spent $80 million to kickstart the development of a brand-new community in the far West Valley.
The large plot of land is about 45 minutes west of downtown Phoenix off I-10 near Tonopah.
The proposed community, made up of close to 25,000 acres of land, is called Belmont. According to Belmont Partners, a real estate investment group based in Arizona, the goal is to turn the land into its own "smart city."

If they are conservatives they are welcome, but the influx of liberals have turned this once blood red state into a purplish red.
Well the truck stop is already there. That’s something.
I
Got to admit...You did an excellent job of covering everything!

already is a westworld in AZ
No problem with That,
Just an old guy and an ugly Dog!
Bill Gates, just doing his party to turn another state blue
Have to complete the flip of Arizona from red to blue.
25,000 Seattloids ought to do it.
That’s a joke. most developers count on the same water for their “100 year plan”
Water usage is a major developmental issue for growing large cities in the Third World.
Perhaps a minimal water consumption footprint is and the development of technology to achieve this is a major part of Gate's plan.
It would be if I were him.
The site purchased by Gates is pretty much laying on top of the Central Arizona Project canal so access to huge quantities of water is assured and it has direct freeway access to LA, Las Vegas and San Diego to the west and multiple access routes to the East bound I-10.
Somebody did a lot of thinking to choose this site. My gut is that Gates will pull it off and put the US economy at the forefront of developing the technology and developmental model and economic pathway to allow the Third World to develop it's way to First World economic status without the massive ecological and Health/Welfare problems we see in China and India. .
Risk is limited because CAP was only Phase I on Barry Goldwater's master plan to extend the CAP canal network to the Pacific Ocean and supply Arizona and the entire South West with unlimited quantities of desalinated sea water from the Pacific Ocean.
Much of the necessary infrastructure was set aside for this eventuality 40 years ago.
Recent advancements in desalination technology and recovery of Uranium from sea water for power plants make this technologically feasible in large scale
“...smart city...”
And then, one day there will be a total gridlock on the whole town, and all the phones will display the message on a blue screen: GENERAL CITY FAULT.
The city will have to shut down completely and restart, taking about two weeks.
This city will be the opposite of smart.
They are trying to turn Az blue. They better widen I-10. The traffic is getting pretty bad at 0400 heading to work at Palo Verde.

The site is only a few miles from the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station also perfect for the application of distributed solar power for harvesting of incidental, supplemental solar energy.
Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station has infrastructure for at least one additional new nuclear reactor to expand capacity

Okay mischief makers - if some of us bought land adjacent to this site, what would be the best thing to put there to piss off our future neighbors ... or perhaps to motivate Gates to pay double the going rate to buy that too?
Maybe something like a ginormous eye sore of a wind farm right between his site and the areas best views? Any other ideas?
And water, plenty of that where they invaded from.
Recycled sewage
A thousand yard rifle range, allowing full auto weapons.
There you go, right on Target
