The flag and the anthem stand for the foundation of this country and all the amendments up until now. The flag does not condone bigotry nor the slavery of our past which was resolved legally after the war.
People who serve under the flag who act like jerks are just people - acting like jerks. They don’t change the ideals for which the flag stands

Thank you for saying that. Usually people say respecting the flag and anthem is about respecting our fallen soldiers and vets. That’s only part of it.
Call it politics or no, most people just don’t care.
We care, but the sheeple are never happier than when being entertained. And they will gladly forfeit all respect and dignity for that entertainment.
