The democrat got 71% of Hillary’s vote while Gillespie only got 55% of Trumps vote. If there was any message being sent its that the establishment Gop was being rejected and those in congress who are fighting Trump. The Gop congress has not delivered.

Sorry, that's incorrect.

Gillespie got 66.3% of Trump's vote.

1,173,326 (Gillespie) divided by 1,769,443 (Trump) = 66.3%

Also, Gillespie beat Trump in percentage of total voters.

2016 - Trump - 44.4%

2017 - Gillespie - 45.0%
