So, as a cat expert, how can I get my old (14yrs) feral cat to move indoors, winter is here again?
Bear in mind, he’ll let me feed him twice a day, come to the porch and meow when he wants food, and eat me alive if I try to touch him.
I trapped him when he was a youngster and got him neutered and now he won’t go near a trap, he’d starve first.
Tell him that you're going to have him un-neutered. He's a cat, he won't know until you've got him in the kitty carrier and inside the house.
My cats all move in when the weather gets cold. They scratch on my bedroom window until I let them in...and then they want to eat.
Winters are tough when you love those little guys.
On of my little guys died last week. Broke my heart.
This is a tough business.
A. Throw a blanket over him when he`s eating-
B. [wear some gloves and thick clothes]
C. Grab cat, blanket and all and throw it all thru the
door.
D. Slam door.
E. Works every time.
Cats write the terms of the relationship. Especially feral cats. The best thing you can do is make a cozy space for him on the porch or under the house. If you try to force him you can get hurt by his razor sharp claws or bitten. Also forcing him might make the relationship go backwards. Bigly.
I’ve got two cats in the house (one arrived as a feral).
Two more in the garage, feral but tamed down to being very affectionate, though they roam.
And I have four more ferals outside, wild but not mean...we had the big one spayed and two weeks later she showed up with three little ones in tow??
Anyway you can install a little cat door on your garage or outbuilding...they will figure out how to use it once they learn food is on the other side. The good ones are very expensive but they are worth it.
