Many Americans like myself also object to distinguishing communism much from fascism or monarchy. Governments with all of those labels and enough resources have tended to become expansionist dictatorships, repeatedly threatening to devour their neighbors and become evil empires.
All of them have either tried to abolish religion or use it as a tool for extreme, police state control to keep most economic and military properties and other assets under the control of a more or less dynastic faction.
