What ought anyone think when government agencies take measurements of that gas on the summit of active volcanoes, which are by nature big CO2 emitters? (NOAA is infamous for measuring its levels on the summit of Mauna Loa, which last erupted in 1984.)

The CO2 measurements from Mauna Loa were replicated worldwide in the 1950's. Since then they are replicated daily in a dozen or more locations. You can click on 4 of them here:
