To: miss marmelstein
It seems to me that actors have a lower tolerance for modesty than most people. I'm thinking about them becoming desensitized to various states of undress from a career of costume quick changes in the wings of stages, and how maybe that translates into a certain, shall we say, forwardness towards others who are new to the clique?

Yes, that’s right. When you work off-B’way or off-off-B’way or even community theater, you have men and women dressing together. It becomes meaningless after awhile. But the real change for actors began in the 60s when nudity entered film and theater. Then it got totally out of control. Today, at least Equity is very aware of this and has certain rules in place for rehearsals. Personally, I agree with my old acting teacher who loathed nudity on stage because it stops the action cold.
