Darvish seeks redemption in winner-take-all G7

The day after a brief and forgettable Game 3 start on Friday, Dodgers right-hander Yu Darvish found himself in the center of a dugout huddle, encircled by his teammates. "We're going to get this one for you!" they chanted.

"We have a lot of faith in Yu," Clayton Kershaw said after the Dodgers' 3-1 victory in Game 6 on Tuesday. "He's pitched great for us. I know he's ready to go."

So, too, will be Kershaw. Circumstances will dictate how deep manager Dave Roberts pushes Darvish, but with a robust bullpen (one that will include Kershaw and Alex Wood) ready, there will be plenty of available coverage.

"It meant a lot to him for players to come out and say that," Roberts said. "And just know that we have all the confidence in him for [Game 7]. I know he's looking to redeem himself, and felt that obviously he wasn't himself. So it's our job to give him that opportunity." Darvish said before Game 6 that Gurriel has asked to meet with him so that he could apologize, but Darvish told him, "Hey, you don't have to do that, because you made a comment, and, like, I'm not that mad."

Game 6 starter Rich Hill made sure the Dodger faithful had the opportunity to express their opinion, taking his time to start the second inning with Gurriel in the box to lead off the innings. The boos, predicatably rained down on Gurriel as he waited.

...

One of the biggest questions leading into Darvish's second start against the Astros is how much he'll be able to rely on the slider. A pitch that accounted for nearly 25 percent of those that Darvish threw during the regular season was almost entirely ineffective for him in Game 3.

I predict Gurriel striking out Everytime he bats against Darvish. Or maybe he’ll Homer.

Darvish pitched masterfully in the NLCS, his slider was nearly unhittable and the movement on the ball incredible. But his appearance in the World Series was unbelievably BAD. I’m guessing + hoping that whatever butterflies he had the game before will be buoyed by the home field advantage ... and the expected appearance of Sandy Koufax to throw out the first pitch. Similarly with Kershaw in relief. GO DODGERS!

The Series is over. Game 7 happened last night. The Astros are out of rockets. Tonight is just a formality to seal the deal and give the LA fans a place to gather and raise hell before going out and destroying the city. Congratulations to the Dodgers.

Darvish is going to get shelled. He’ll get the hook early but not in time to stop the bleeding.

I agree 100%. I am hoping Darvish is similar to Rich Hill. Hill had much better command of his pitches last night than he did in his first WS game. Both teams are evenly matched & it should be a great game.

Also Turner is due. He had a great season & playoffs, but has been slumping in the WS.

One thing is for sure, you can’t count either team out no matter how many runs they are down.

This should be a great Game 7.

Good for MLB! This WS has been more fun to watch than the last 5 Super Bowls.

Go Dodgers!

Can you imagine if Darvish throws a beaner at Gurriel's head? And then Gurriel charges the mound?

That would be so epic.

Not that I condone such things...

Yeah....no. Darvish may have lost several millions in future contract value over the last week.
