I have yet to hear a finer reading of Hawthorne's classic story than this version recorded by Basil Rathbone.
It is moody, chilling, insightful and masterfully dramatic as Rathbone imparts his unique style to each of the voiced characters.
Here you will find the essence of true horror.
Not the blood and guts of a slasher movie.
Nor the melodrama of Vampires and Werewolves.
But the real horror that lies in the corruption of sin in the human heart.
