The ousted principal of a Bronx school that was the scene of the citys first classroom slaying in 25 years asked for a metal detector before the crime but was denied, according to a Bronx city councilman.
Addressing schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña Monday, Councilman Rafael Salamanca Jr. said former Urban Assembly for Wildlife Conservation Principal Astrid Jacobo told him her scanner pleas were rejected.

DOE denies the school requested metal detectors. The school insists it did. Who’s lying? If the school did, it should be able to show the documentation and demonstrate who’s lying. Best not to jump to conclusions before facts are evident.
If you've ever been to that area of the Bronx, you'd be nuts to run a school without metal detectors. So yes, I believe that the principal asked for them and was denied. It is also true that DeBlASSio tried to have all metal detectors removed last year, because it looked bad and made the schools look dangerous (they ARE).
