Well, not the American...er, French political class, but many of the more common people did. The political class refused to allow government spending to go toward a military buildup before the Germans attacked and crushed the few poorly equipped French and British troops in France.

As for the Muslims, it's the European and American political class stuffing them into our countries now, because as employees, they're more subservient. They also serve, as with many other regulatory measures by the political class, to keep potential domestic business competition down.
