This is not the skull shot. Not sure if it hit bone along the way, but it hit the fleshy part of the upper back-neck first.
And people don’t generally hunt with FMJ.
Later spitzer fmj, like modern 5.56 and 7.62, will typically yaw when it hits at short range, and come apart at the cannelure, causing devastating wounds.
Old school round nose FMJ, like the Carcano round, and 30-03 (precursor to the spitzer 30-06), and old Mauser rounds, were noted for just plowing straight through.
Americans hit by old-style 7mm round nose Mauser in the Spanish American war typically would recover quickly from lung shots because the bullets left a small hole in, and a small hole out.
I don’t care about what you have read in books - i KNOW that when a projective FMJ or not hits bone, bone shatters and bullet is deformed. Now if you believe the Warren Commission, the unmarred (but squishy) bullet had to do a lot of work, given the accounting for the others, and it dropped out on a stretcher. RIIIIIGHHHHT
