Stupid/ignorant questions.
1 - Where is all the expended brass?
We’ve only seen a few photos showing a small part of a very large suite.
I haven’t seen a serious count of rounds fired. AFAIK, there were only 3-4 bursts of less than 100 rounds each. Yeah that’s a bunch of shots, but doesn’t make _that_ big a mess, especially if being flung either all round the hotel suite or out the window.
2. Where all the carpet burns from hot brass & barrels?
Yeah brass is hot - on your skin, which is full of nerves and cellular packets of water which starts boiling.
There really isn’t that much heat in an expended shell, not enough to burn carpet. Consider: you use a similar cloth to pull hot stuff out of an oven, yet it does not burn.
As for the barrels, the guns are built such that if you lay one down on the floor, the barrel doesn’t touch the carpet.
And even if there were burns, they’d be under the shells & barrels (having not subsequently moved, after sitting still long enough to burn), and would be on an awful carpet featuring a print that looks like barrel-and-shells burns.
3 - When seconds count, police are 72 minutes away...but why?
First police contact was at 6 minutes. Not a bad response time for such a scenario.
Second was at (IIRC) 12 minutes. Perp fired back, driving off outgunned police.
When you’re bringing in the SWAT team for an obviously heavily-armed active shooter, you don’t just barge into a possible pile of booby traps etc. They had to check out other lower-floor claims (”4th floor shooter”, was a strobe light), etc. He had also stopped shooting at about 10 minutes, so no apparent rush.
Cops want to go home for breakfast too, ya know.
4 - To wit: “hey, two guns look identical”
Yeah. So? He brought dozens of guns. No surprise if some are the same.
5 - To wit: “it’s being called a sniper’s nest”
Since when do we expect mass news media to use gun terms precisely? A guy found a good place to perpetrate his evil from, shooting moderate distances (3-400 m) using long barreled rifles with scopes.
How it’s _reported_ doesn’t affect what the situation _is_.
I don't know the first thing about guns and I'm not looking for a fight, but are you suggesting that 300-400 bullets accounted for approx. 550 casualties?
