They do think they are special
Nothing wrong with that if they behave within social norms
Going Greek is one way to be special on a huge indifferent campus of 25,000 young people , many on their own for the first time
Most if them do offer opportunities for charitable work
“ Thon” is a big fundraiser
Yeah but much of it is group bonding and affiliation ( that goes beyond college and offers professional networking) and just- fun. Lots of fun.
Did I know fellow PSU Greeks who died? Yes I remember 4 killed in a traffic accident returning from a road trip.
But this tragedy? Based on surveillance video and transcripts this was “ Lord of the Flies” sadism and depraved indifference to human suffering.
However I do not see this as endemic to the entire frat and sorority system.
