I really don’t get the negative connection between watermelon and black people. I’ve heard about it for years, but really don’t get it. Can someone spell it out for me?

I knew persons from Russia, and they don't get the connection either -- they love watermelon.

You tell anyone outside of the USA that watermelon is supposed to be "racially insensitive" and all you get back are strange looks.
