What’s funny is, a company—Anchor Bay, I think—paid a lot of money to restore NOTLD to give it a quality release, and some of the low-rent DVD companies thought they could use that transfer for their own releases! It doesn’t really work that way. Yeah, release NOTLD all you want, but do your own work on your own print!

I believe the way to get around that is to make some change - like put in a different title lettering or adding some other element, eg. chapter marks, so that a video can be registered as a “new work”. I think that’s how quite a few distributors can re-issue public domain films under their own label.
