This guy was online gambling, he was buying rifles, he was buying real-estate. He may not have been on Facebook, but he was most definitely using the internet and communication devices a great deal.
No, but one does not follow the other. He could have very well used the internet to reserve hotel rooms across the nation, buy airline tickets, etc...just that he may not have had a social media presence.
