Not to derail the main point of the article, but how does one actually go about giving an item away to the police? Are they like Goodwill, where you can donate an old couch, clothes or appliance - say, like a coffee maker?

Or is it limited only to weapons? Do they take knives? Baseball bats? Lastly, is there a form noting the item and value for tax deduction purposes?
