Cam Newton is under fire for making a sexist comment to a female reporter during a press conference on Wednesday.
Carolina Panthers beat writer Jourdan Rodrigue asked the quarterback about wide receiver Devin Funchess improvements on the field. I know you take a lot of pride in seeing your receivers play well, Rodrigue said during the briefing. Devin Funchess has really seemed to embrace the physicality of his routes and getting those extra yards. Does that give you a little bit of enjoyment to see him kind of truck-sticking people out there?
Newton laughed and replied, Its funny to hear a female talk about routes like its funny.
Rodrigue responded to Newtons comments on Twitter writing, I dont think its funny to be a female and talk about routes. I think its my job. Later she wrote, I spoke with him after and it was worse. I chose not to share, because I have an actual job to do today and one he will not keep me from.
Fellow journalists came to Rodrigues defense on Twitter. One wrote, Brutal, sexist answer from Cam Newton in response to good question from female reporter. And the body language was just as bad. Another said, What frustrates me about Cam Newtons comments: Hes not joking around with friends, hes being condescending to a reporter doing her job.
Lindsay Jones, who also covers the NFL, reminded everyone that women covering sports is nothing new. Oh come on. Welcome to 2017 Cam Newton, she said. [Jourdan Rodrigue] deserves better than that.
I am not much for women in the locker rooms of guys asking questions.
Lets have male reporters inside female locker rooms while they are in various states of undress.
Viva genuine equal treatment.
And i know this was a press conference not in the locker room. I am saying i dont like women in mens locker rooms.
Cam lost me when he poured thru a post Super Bowl press conference. Great athlete, entitled ass.
“Not like calculating escape velocity from earth. “
You’re right about that.
Armed with nothing but a slide rule, and a pencil, I learned how to calculate escape velocities (from any celestial object) in 1st year Engineering. I never would have wanted to be anywhere near where the ball was supposed to be, in an NFL game.
Its all over Twitter, a real snowstorm of snowflakes.
“Newton laughed and replied, Its funny to hear a female talk about routes like its funny.
I think it’s funny too.
.
Everything you see is scripted. From the on field questions to the daily news from your local TV readers who do nothing but read from their teleprompters...........
Hey Cam, next time just answer the question. Your editorial comments about the journalist are not required.
Cam Newton is a low IQ jackass.
Cam is highly unusual. He’s probably making a play for the best rubber room available after his career ends, which is most likely by Dec. 1.
I think dressing like a pimp is causing him to think like one.
I think dressing like a pimp is causing him to think like one.
Journalists don’t go around sniffing jockstraps in football locker rooms or asking questions from man boys who play with their balls for a living.
Sometimes these women sports reporters really try too hard, overusing slang and the lingo of the game. Its like theyre laying it on a little too thick.
Cam Newton is an entitlement mentality IDIOT.
In this age of sports figure as a standard bearer of Social Justice, he just disrespected women all around the country and I’d like to THANK HIM for exposing himself and his ilk as the selfish Neanderthals and hypocrites they are.
Also, Cam Newton is a one-read piece of zhit QB.
Considering he decided to honor racist Black Panthers by making the black-power salute, I truly, truly will enjoy every bit of grief that comes his way.
The best way to DESTROY Political Correctness and SJW’s is to DESTROY its standard bearers using their own tactics against them.
If you wanna kneel and disrespect millions of Americans (untold numbers who are black) and make a racist salute, then YOU PAY THE PRICE when you DISRESPECT women with a stupid remark.
