I saw on in my central Texas yard last week. It was about 1.25” long and grey in color. Much bigger and had a ridge down the center of his back. I left him alone and when I came back to the same area 10 minutes later he was gone.
Weird bug.

Sounds like the same thing .. that ‘ridge’ can be fairly pronounced.
The stink when they’re squished isn’t overpowering like a skunk, but it’s definitely unpleasant and tends to linger quite awhile.
And the damned things WILL find a way indoors !
