Literary music videos force the interpretation of the poetry of lyrics into a video context. In this case, Trek. The Civil War carol is about the desire for peace. Kirk has no desire for peace because the Klingons have killed his son. It’s Spock who is trying to bring them together and Kirk rejecting it. The episode revolves around the hidden desire of some people to forment that war.

When I started making these in 1986, I divided them into living room videos that took knowing the show and were frequently layered in meanings that people wrote about in books, and auditorium videos that used so much visual matching to the lyrics that you didn’t need to know much. This one I would class as a living room video, but there are lots of FR people who know the Trek movies, so it should work for them.

If you mean connecting a carol to a TV show, that I find absolute joy. Two loves in one piece. If carols in your world shouldn’t connect to TV shows, these won’t be for you. But they’ll work for many people.
