I was in junior high school only ten miles from there in Fayetteviille, NY.

Funny, Mom and Dad never took us to that swamp. Guess they had swamps closer to home where they’d try to dump us, but we always found our way home. I always kept a compass, signaling mirror, pocketknife, and waterproof matches in my pants pocket “just in case.”

Sounds like you grew up like me. Pocket knife, matches, compass...

Always made it home before Ma and Pa moved. Even when they sold me to the Gypsies in the traveling carnival!
