There are approximately 1.5 billion cows on the planet,...

Likely a much smaller number than the population of large wild ungulates that existed 200-300 years ago. And termites have always emitted far more methane than all other sources combined. Whatcha gonna do about termites?

One time I had a spectrometer we were looking to see if we could detect any methane emissions from an old landfill that was now being used commercially. We accidentally left the spectrometer on recording but pointed away from the target site but pointed at a crowd of people. Let me just say, people are a gassy lot! So cows meh ! The largest UNDERESTIMATION is for the number of illegals living inside USA borders.

So here is the problem:

Cows tend to congregate.....especially under trees during a thunderstorm

So if there was a lightening strike..the bag of methane would get ignited

so setting off a chain reaction amongst the other methane collecting cow systems

Result...an exploded cow heard...milk and cow body parts spread all over.
