“nice guy” is code for annoying. Non “nice” guys aren’t mean, they just aren’t begging for attention or appearing at the girl’s beck and call, so they are attracted to them. Most “nice” guys are just annoying schleps who the girl doesn’t want to be with.

Intellect is a tertiary trait in finding a mate.
Empathy, kindness, respect, mutual interests, mutual religious views, agreement on child rearing. Every one of those is more important than intellect.
Women who are late in life and haven’t perceived this do not possess as much intelligence as they imagine.

I have a doctorate in one of the STEM fields. I never lacked romantic attention from men. Even when I was middle aged and attended professional conferences I needed to make it a point that I was a faithful Christian. This immediately established a cordial and **professional** working relationship. Now that I am retired it still occasionally happens that men are overly interested in me.
They are not only too smart, they are also too “hot”, and too humble.
A degree outside STEM meant someone learned how to use a library. With Google, it many not even mean that.
