There is a LOT of money to be made tutoring one-on-one. The kids are sons and daughters of parents who want the kid to excel. You’ll often get Asian kids who are polite to a fault. My daughter tutored a lot of them in bio and algebra and the kids very often didn’t need the tutoring, but the parents simply didn’t want the kids to get lazy or rusty during the summer break. You set your own hours and can charge $75 to $100 per hour depending on where you live. You usually get the kids who want to learn and enjoy learning. Plus, you make a direct impact on the kids without the chaos of a classroom, the micromanagement of the administration, the newest useless educational fad du jour, and hours spent filling out government mandated forms.
I think the average person would be shocked at asian kids and their parents. I watch my wife teach and the term “tiger mom” is absolutely true. Those kids work hard because that is what has been instilled in them from the crib. Kind of how generations past in America was brought up.
