Officials familiar with the Pakistan prong of Washingtons new AfPak strategy which involves an open-ended commitment in Afghanistan and praise for India say it has yet to be fleshed out. But they have plenty of levers.
President Donald Trump last month promised to get tough on Pakistan, accusing it of housing the very terrorists that we are fighting. It was the most public breach yet in an often rocky relationship.
No US president has come out on American national television and said such things about Pakistan, said Husain Haqqani, former Pakistan ambassador to the US.
US policymakers are at the end of their tethers about what they see as Pakistan not helping them while promising to help them.

They have the bomb
Then investigate Imran Awan and his intel sales to their intelligence.
One of the best endorsements of President Trump I have seen.
So do we.
Pakistan is a nation that has inextricably survived large internal political divisions, large political conflicts and what seems to the wast as many hypocrisies, and done so with most of its political divisions blaming outsiders for most of its problems, while often scapegoating India &/or the U.S. and leaving an actual state-within-the-state - the military & intelligence bodies collectively - more than anything else determining Pakistan foreign policy IN THERE OWN interest and for their own power. With every “election” in Pakistan it has seemed that the more things seem to change, the more they stay the same.
Trump is left with a U.S.-Pakistan relationship that nearly all U.S. presidents in Pakistan’s history fell into - U.S. support being bought with false promises, paid for with U.S. military support, which the Pakistan state-within-the-state wants to keep primarily aimed at India.
GOOD
Considering they were harboring Osama, I’d have cut off all aid, diplomatic ties, or anything else.Stop funding countries who hate us.
Dump them!
Pakistan has been putting it in our back door for a long time. Its time we cut the $$ from them and make them get their bribes somewhere else. Russia would be glad to make deals with them.
Now that IS..... GOOD NEWS!
And interesting take on our relations with Pakistan is included in the novel "The Survivor" by Kyle Mills and Vince Flynn.
They’ve spread their nuke knowledge around, too.
We don’t NEED those duplicitous ragheads as “allies”. How many “friendly fire” incidents have there been, with Pakis murdering U.S. servicemen? You may be sure that I have scrupulously checked labels, particularly of cloth goods like socks, to make sure I wasn’t buying anything made in that accursed country.
Have someone build a wall between helmand province and Pakistan.
I concur. I don’t trust the Pakis ever since they came in my yard and keek my dog.
Dump Turkey and remove all our military personnel and equipment.
Obama’s Poki-stan. Drop away.
All of most of our supplies to Afghanistan flow thru Pokistan.
Since they dropped us long ago, or more accurately, never viewed us as anything but a mark, how will anyone be able to tell the difference? In the cold war, the USSR, China, and the US played hot potato -- "no, you take 'em!" "No, you!" with the failed pseudostate of Pakistan. Nothing much has changed. Thanks heterosupremacist.
