I personally know over 100 shrinks... I am even married to one.
The major problem is not the psychiatrists, they are usually very intelligent logical individuals who are relatively level headed... The problem is psychologists who try to act like a psychiatrist. My experience is very poor with psychologists, and I also know a lot of them. I end up cleaning up their mistakes...
Most people don’t understand the difference. A psychiatrist is an MD who graduated from a medical school and a 4 year residency program. A psychiatrist works with the physical body and the mind.
A psychologist only works with the mind and usually does not understand the physical body. It is illegal for psychologists to make a diagnosis as to to so would be practicing medicine without a license.
This means that psychologists don’t even consider biological causes of depression or other illnesses. B12 deficiency, copper toxicity and electrolyte imbalances are all biological causes of depression outside their professional realm.
Traditionally, most psychiatrists have been male (changing now) while most psychologists have been female.
While I am not a psychologist, one of my degrees is in psychology... It was a piece of cake... My focus is in neuroscience research.
By the way, my wife clearly stated that the Goldwater Rule has not changed and these people are in violation. We attended a program on this topic at the annual psychiatric conference last April where the experts discussed it.
Thanks for explaining that. I honestly didn't know.
