I did the Experian scan for my dark web info. Was sent back a note that my social was on my medical records in the scan.

Lovely.

Now I'm on the Experian spam list.....an example:

Your email address was not found on the Dark Web.

Here's what to do next:

Scan the Dark Web for 7 other items of personal information that could have been compromised by potential identity thieves.

Your Email Address
Social Security Number
Phone Number
Driver's License
Medical ID
Bank Account(s)
Credit/Debit Cards
Passport

Take the next step to protect your identity. Get Experian Identity Theft Protection for an immediate scan of the Dark Web to see what elements of your personal information are exposed there, plus daily Dark Web Internet Surveillance, and credit monitoring and ongoing alerts to activity that could be fraud.

Lovely. Now they want to sell me *protection*...laughable.

I go ballistic when a doc office asks for my social. Always refuse. But it's on my Medicare card. We're caught between the devil and the dark web.

I also protest when the 8-10 pages of info they ask you to fill out are all redundant. Too lazy to curate the docs. If I don't like the question I cross it out. Heck with them.

According to the gubmint, they are rolling out new Medicare cards on which the SSN is replaced with a newly assigned Medicare Beneficiary Identifier.

"We've often heard from Congress, the General Accountability Office, people with Medicare, and advocacy groups that they want the SSN taken off Medicare cards."
