They should not have killed this kid. He was attempting suicide by cop and they were to quick to obige him.

[They should not have killed this kid.]

The cops could have disabled the knife. Apparently he was off his meds.

Really? I’m guessing you haven’t spent much time on patrol. Most Academies train their officers on the “21 foot rule” meaning any distance less than 21 feet, deadly force is authorized. It takes roughly three seconds to cover that distance for the average person. The video is clear that the responding officers issued multiple verbal commands, and continued to back away from the subject until it was unsafe to do so. At some point, officers have not only the right, but the duty to defend themselves and the public at large. This “kid” continued to advance and brandish. Had he just stood there, maybe the ending would have been different. I grieve for the loss of life, but he chose the outcome.

The knife-waving young man was jogging along at-— a conservative estimate -— 5 MPH. That’s 7 feet per second. He would have been upon the police officer in less than
3 seconds.

Honest question. Should the officer have waited until he’d stabbed him?

He was able to plan the scenario beforehand. That gave him the advantage.
