When my daughter was 18 or 19, she wanted to get a nose piercing.

I told her that since she was an adult, I couldn’t stop her but I did ask one favor. That she get it on the right side so I didn’t have to look at it while I was eating dinner.

She wised up.

All four of my kids are grown and none have wasted their money on anything stupid like tattoo’s.

Sometimes I see the streetcorner vagrants begging money with their cardboard signs. While I never get sucked in, I never even consider giving money to an otherwise strong, 24 year old guy with %3,000 of ink on his arms.

Yesterday, we were in a very busy area. A guy had a sign that said “looking for work.” There had to be 300 businesses within the next mile of road. We wondered how many had copies of his job application.

Mine got one and I told her it showed the world her IQ had dropped 50 points. I never saw it again.

In my neck of the woods, you can't throw a rock without hitting a "Help Wanted" sign. Things are booming. Construction is everywhere.

Number of people begging on the street are still about the same, though.
