I believe what she said was that one could see Russia from Alaska, which is true. Big Diamede (Russia) is just a couple of miles from Little Diamede (Alaska, USA).
She did say that she could see Russia but it was from an island off the coast of Alaska, not her porch. The porch bit was SNL.
