Wasn’t sure about the title. Not the one I was thinking about. 1st stanza: “If I could be with you one hour tonite; and I were free to do the things I might; I’m telling you true, I’d be anything but blue; If I could be with you.” (The Mills Bros., maybe? Long time ago).

Turns out, “If I Could Be With You” was recorded by many biggies; Bing, Ella, Perry and Frank, Basie, to name a few. Written in 1926. Wow! It was already nearly 25 years old when I first heard it.

The hit version, by a Los Angeles group, from the spring of '32. This has a slower tempo and a vocal refrain.

One Hour With You--Jimmy Grier & His Coconut Grove Orchestra

Johnny Marvin and Aileen Stanley, who sing "I walked back from the buggy ride" (1927) sound like a couple of hayseeds, but they were two of the most popular singers during the Coolidge and Hoover presidencies.

Half a Moon--Nat Shilkret & His Orchestra (vocal by Johnny Marvin) (1926)

Broken Hearted--Aileen Stanley (1927)

Yes. I think I stated that. I thought it was “If I Could Be With You. “But when I clicked the link and heard the orchestra, I knew it was a different song. I also misquoted the end of stanza one. Should have been: “I promise you true, YOU’d be anything but blue; if I could be with you.” Happy trails.
