Unfortunately it’s what ‘the people’ have pretty much accepted or it wouldn’t be happening. “Lovers of themselves” does say it well.
Exactly, caww—and notice how lovers of themselves goes hand-in-hand with hatred of God and Christians, as well as their own, warped self-righteousness. More and more, we have to pray for those yet to come into the fold, but many of these people have reached the point of having a conscience that is seared.
