The Africanization of the American pop music industry. Wonder’s first hit, “Uptight” was recorded in 1965, over fifty years ago. Paved the way for Berry Gordy, the mastermind behind the “Motown” sound. The industry has never recovered. Also killed the American jazz idiom. Even tho John Coltrane was a racist, Trane’s virtuosity on the sax was indisputable. He was light years ahead of Wonder’s singing. So was “The Divine” Sarah Vaughan, with her five octave voice range, at least during the first 25 years of her career, when she recorded for Mercury Records, from the late 40’s to the early 60’s, particularly in Sweden, before she was politicized by the white elites.
