Hurricane Irma leaves these residents stranded. And many are elderly Hispanics.
Miami Herald ^ | September 12, 2017 | SYDNEY PEREIRA

Many asked in Spanish—was it discrimination because they were Latino? They didn’t know what to do or where to go.

Civic Towers had visible damage on the sides of the building where the walls had fallen off. Trees blocked several roads nearby the buildings. Though the entrances were blocked with plywood, windows into residents' apartments were not shuttered.

Most are not Cuban. There is a large Mexican population (and Guatemalan, Salvadoran) that moved to Florida. They have been moved into every state in this country

Because there is so little Spanish language signage and other communications in MIAMI.

“Many asked in Spanish—was it discrimination because they were Latino?”

This crap has got to stop. Too many people have come to believe they are owed special consideration because of some perceived injustice by white people. They’ve been taught this by people whose goal it is to destroy our culture and society.

Many cities. I rode public transportation in Boston this summer and the Airport train station has bilingual announcements on one side and Spanish only on the other side.

So where was THEIR government.....MEXICO?

They are, after all, Mexican citizens....Mexico said so in an affidavit to a Texas court.

In fact, Mexico offered aid...then backed off after Trump kiboshed DACA.

What does their heritage have to do with their situation??

The left keeps talking about being color blind yet all they do is bring up skin color.

WTF difference does the ethnic background of these people matter?

The simple fact is that they are elderly people who are stranded. Any decent human being would feel sorry for them, and want to see them helped. NOT wanting those things would be a story.

I am SOOOOOO sick and tired of this PC crap, and this “everything is racist” crap, that I can’t even begin to describe it.

You are expecting them to take responsibility for themselves, that sounds racist! Don’t you know we are expected to hold their hands through all of this and provide what they want?

They don’t bother to learn English because they don’t need to, they don’t follow instructions because they aren’t expected to do that either. Where are all the dims to take care of them?

No, estúpido. Fue un acto de Dios que acaba de suceder a ocurren en un lugar con una gran población latina. Muchas personas blancas se vieron afectadas como tú.

"Where are the strong families that Latinos are supposed to have that would take care of their elderly? Why did they return to their government provided housing before it had been cleared for habitation? Why haven’t these long-time residents bothered to learn some English so they would be able to get the information they need to live in this country?"....... Hurricanes are “nondiscriminatory”, contrary to some media “experts”.

WHEN, if ever, will this phony blaming stop. Would these same people, were they living in Mexico, Honduras or where ever, be saying the same thing having recently gone through such a disaster? I think not. “Get what you can from the feds” is todays motto.

Are they Cubans? I was actually wondering if they were part of the illegals from South of the border that have dispersed all over the U.S. I would think Cubans would have more help from the Cuban community. I have been wrong before though.

Maybe part of the Guatemalan/El Salvador...waves that were sent all over the country in the last several years? I know we were told they were all children but in groups I saw, the children were few, seemed to me to be mostly elderly and teen/young adult that were processed down here anyway.

So elderly Hispanics are somehow more worthy of sympathy than, say, elderly Asians, elderly veterans, white children, nursing mothers, 12-year-old black girls, disabled Native Americans, or anybody else?

Terrible music played in these stores is another atrocity. Why are customers bombarded with what someone else feels is appropriate? Music is a personal taste and few of us agree but if I hear contemporary pop music played at loud volume with singers who have to exress “baby baby” into a 14 second note...I leave.

Reminds me of when I was in Chicago during a heat wave a few summers ago. One reporter mentioned to check on those who may not have access to AC. She mentioned elderly and poor. But then she added “minorities.” Later that day, Bears’ football players practicing and Cubs’ baseball players in a game, many of whom were minorities, somehow survived. Imagine if a reporter asked one of them how the heat was affecting them since they are minority? She could have stopped at elderly and poor to be inclusive but no. Once again, it is liberalism that is the cause for anguish in our culture.
