To: Skywise

I’m watching it now, and it does feel awkward.

Great special effects, a few minor chuckles.

But the problem is that I have no idea if this is supposed to be serious or a comedy. The humor isnt consistent enough nor does it feel like it even belongs with the level of production value that this show has. The “seriousness” is blunted by the fact that this is marketed as a total send-up of Star Trek, and you are expecting a parody, but you have some fairly intriguing alien characters (too seriously acted to be comic relief), that you honestly dont want to see get lost in some Red Dwarf knock-off.

So honestly I have no idea how to react to this.

My take is he sold it to Fox as a comedy just to get it made but really wanted to do Star Trek better than Paramount does. So the comedy is a throw away act and he’s trying to do a more human interest type sci-fi. He can do these stories as Family Guy has a few episodes of this type (with stewie Griffins time machine) - but really this comes off more as 1000 ways to die in the west, which I hated, and I think Seth is trying to make this format work.
