I’ll give it a torrent to get it out of my system.
If you want to watch a good spoof of ScFi watch Red Dwarf (Red Dwarf XII) episodes. I think a new season will be released on October 12. What I am not sure of is if it will be released to American audiences on that date.
Smile? She has a smile??
Oh, yeah... I didn’t look far enough up.
One of the funniest taglines I’ve ever seen! Well done, sir!
It wasn’t good. Bad acting, bad characters, boring story, odd humor placement, tons of oddly missed humor placement (which, I think, proves that Seth doesn’t understand humor but merely extends his drunk frat boy schtick and goes for shock jokes)
Can’t decide if it’s a drama, sci-fi show or a comedy.
But... i managed to watch it all without wretching. I’m willing to give it a few more episodes to see if it works out but just barely.
That mole between her eyes has to go.
There was a Dallas Cowboy game on at the same time.
Not a good time to start a new series.
I’m watching it now, and it does feel awkward.
Great special effects, a few minor chuckles.
But the problem is that I have no idea if this is supposed to be serious or a comedy. The humor isnt consistent enough nor does it feel like it even belongs with the level of production value that this show has. The “seriousness” is blunted by the fact that this is marketed as a total send-up of Star Trek, and you are expecting a parody, but you have some fairly intriguing alien characters (too seriously acted to be comic relief), that you honestly dont want to see get lost in some Red Dwarf knock-off.
So honestly I have no idea how to react to this.
she has eyes? Oh yeah...
On a 60 TV screen the visuals were very nice. The show moved slowly and had a lot of characters who were imitations of previous types from previous shows. All in all the new Star Trek was acceptable and entertaining. Right after Star Trek I watched the DVD of part 2 Gaurdians of the Galaxy. Gaurdians moved at a faster pace and was reasonably entertaining. $2.16 for blue-Ray at Red Box. The new Star Trek is free. I will keep watching it. Many of the Freepers are hate mongers and will try to destroy just about anything. I expect the Orville to be mildly entertaining.
OK I watched some of the new Fox Science Fiction show somewhat based on Star Trek called The Orville. Bad? Awful! Let’s call it Star Trek for morons. The set looks a little like a Grade School cafeteria and that is where they recruited the writers and some of the actors.
Seth McFarlane is a brilliant and talented man, who chooses to use his God-given gifts to produce raunchy, trashy shows. He can be downright hilarious, but like the blue comedians who think they can’t be funny without being obscene, he insists on pushing the envelope far beyond human decency. I’m thankful he wasn’t around when my kids were growing up, but my grandkids do not have such a blessing. Like other obscene programming, his kind of tripe is available 24/7, on tv, computers and cellphones, and there are few kids who are not exposed to it. Even if parents are vigilant, kids are sneaky. This is the type of stuff that is causing the decay of our society. There’s no good answer; nobody wants censorship. Well, there is one good remedy. Revival. And it’s coming, thank God. The question is, how bad does it have to get, before it comes?
Red Dwarf is the funniest Sci Fi ever besides futurama
My take is he sold it to Fox as a comedy just to get it made but really wanted to do Star Trek better than Paramount does. So the comedy is a throw away act and he’s trying to do a more human interest type sci-fi. He can do these stories as Family Guy has a few episodes of this type (with stewie Griffins time machine) - but really this comes off more as 1000 ways to die in the west, which I hated, and I think Seth is trying to make this format work.
It was a Saturday Night Live skit extended out to an hour.
Not horrible, but not good. Lukewarm.
It was pretty clear they were going down the diversity checklist:
___Minimal amount of white males
___White Female
___African American Female
___African American Male
___Gay Character (yet to be revealed)
It’s hard to believe that the show originated in 1980s.
When my now grown married daughter visits we sometimes have Red Dwarf marathons.
I didn’t see Star Trek as much as I saw Galaxy Quest in it. I recorded it so I could fast-forward thru the commercials and I also fast-forwarded thru the he-she scenes. I doubt that I’ll waste my time with it. I’ll wait for Dark Matter and the Expanse to return to SyFy channel.
If McFarlane hadn’t slept in 16 years ago today and missed his flight, we would never have had the chance to see this show.
