I was on a jury where the perp was accused of aggravated sexual assault. There were three of us on the jury who believed the guy needed to be sent away for as long as possible, which was life (20 years) and we worked as a tag team. When one of us said something one or both of the others added their support.

One old lady on the jury thought that he should only receive five years because, "you know how cruel prison can be." And, I immediately said, "Ma'am, that young woman he so cruelly raped, is going to be forced to think about what he did to her for the rest of her life. The least we can do is make sure that he is forced to pay for what he did to her for the maximum time allowed."

The two others chimed in exactly as I had led. He got sentenced to life in prison.
