Southern Florida hoards the elderly in these endless nursing homes. I’ve only been to Miami once but I was shocked at the “warehousing” of the elderly. That was in the 90s and maybe it’s changed, I hope so. I keep thinking about them with Irma.
Nursing homes unlike hospitals are for profit businesses. My guess is that many older people from colder climates retire in Florida and then when they can no longer live independently they end up in nursing homes and are geographically separated from their families. It is a great business model if you own a nursing home business.
Is Tommy Sotomayor actually big enough to batter Florida with?
If Irma heads out and stays out in the Gulf it will be great for Florida and lots of fun watching the MSM eat crow.
There are many very old nursing homes in Miami that rely on Medicaid funding for poor residents.
Some of them look like prisons—and many are still there.
That’s what I noticed, I guess, back in the 90s.
Thank God
