Malaysia blocks Steam over 2D brawler that lets you beat up Jesus

Fight of Gods pits deities from various pantheons, including Buddha, Odin, Zeus, and Anubis, against one another in one-on-one brawls for the right to lead the world to enlightenment (or something like that, anyway). It's not the first such game to take that angle—Faith Fighter, which enables you to "choose your belief and kick the shit out of your enemies," caused a stir nearly a decade ago—but it may be the first to so obviously capitalize on the easy and inevitable controversy caused by such an up-front inclusion of Christianity. And it worked, although perhaps not in quite the way the developers intended.

The game itself, currently in Early Access, doesn't look all that terribly impressive... But it caught the notice of religious leaders in Malaysia, one of whom, Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, told The Sun that the Malaysian government "should immediately ban the game or block the download link to avoid the potential of religious tension in the country."

“Any religion and religious leaders who are rational would downright condemn the game, as I’m sure no religion encourages violence and fighting against each other,” he said.[Other than Islam, you mean?]

Others echoed that sentiment, sharing dire warnings of the game's damaging effects, and the outcry was enough that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission gave the "platform provider"—that being Steam—24 hours to disable Fight of Gods downloads in the country. "Failing which, further action will be taken," the Minister said in a statement sent to The Star. "It is in the public interest to ensure that immediate steps are taken so that such contents do not continue to harm others."

I think this is hilarious.

Also, it’s Malaysia, which is Muslim. I’ll bet they are worried about Mohammed being added to the pugilistic pantheon in some future edition, which would be total blasphemy (unless the fights were fixed so he could never lose).

An ounce of prevention...

There is but one God. . .God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Woe to those who think otherwise.

No, this is not hilarious. Are they limits? Is everything a free-for-all? No standards? Nothing out-of-bounds, or is one simply a prude if they do not bow to the absolute basest of appeals.

I’ll bet they are worried about Mohammed being added to the pugilistic pantheon...

Uh, no, this will NEVER happen. Jesus, and Christianity are always fair game to be made sport of, to be laughed at, to be told you just don't get the humor. Do this with the idol, Mohammad. Why not?

God has already laughed at these people. Psalm 2 speaks of how God makes fun of a "vain" thing of setting themselves against Him.

Psa 2:4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision.

All the nations will come against Israel in the Last Day and God will put them in a wine press and the blood will stretch 184 miles as high as a horses bridle.

Odin v. Zeuss. That’s too close to call.

Zeus hurls lightning bolts, sure. And he has Apollo’s bow.
But Odin has his magical spear Gungnir and he has his boy Thor and that semi-automatic hammer.

This one would go 2,930 rounds easily.
